Spices of Munnar, Kerala

Munnar is the Kashmir of Southern India. It is famous for its natural beauty and fabulous weather conditions. Munnar is home to various spices that are cultivated here, apart from tea plantation.

The most popular spices that are cultivated in Munnar as listed below:

Cardamoms , the aromatic spice used in in both food and drink are grown abundantly in the hill station. Cardamoms of various shapes and sizes are planted here. It is also used as an important medicine.

Cinnamon spice is another popular that is extensively grown in the hill station. Cinnamon plantation in the hill station is about 2000 years old. About 40 percent of cinnamon export of India is contributed by Munnar.

Clove Spice is another important plantation . It contributes 20% Clove export of India.

Vanilla Plantation is another popular cultivation which has been taking place about 300 years . About 4 percent of Vanila export is contributed by Munnar.
